PAINT A LITTLE SQUAREReflective Writings on Self-Development and Addiction Author Henry Tews never intended to write a book. As the founder and executive director of Serenity House, he began writing a column in the organization’s newsletter to provide hope and support for clients and their families. A reader was so moved by the columns that she brought them to the attention of Dr. Keith Armstrong, director of De Paul University’s publishing house, who worked with the author to produce the new book Paint a Little SquareReflective Writings on Self Development and Addiction. Mr. Tews, whose father’s death from alcoholism left him at the mercy of his tyrannical grandfather when he was three, has spent a lifetime beating the odds and his own addictions while successfully teaching others to do the same. With a refreshing mix of candor and compassion, the author shares real-life stories of enlightenment, inspiration, and empowerment as he chronicles his success in turning the adversities of his childhood into assets as an adult. A gifted narrator, Mr. Tews relates his spiritual idealism to the everyday realities of life in such a way that any reader can appreciate his message. As you travel with him through his remarkable journey, you will join countless others whom he has taught to view the events in their lives from a spiritually higher level. About the Author Mr. Tews worked for twenty years to open the first comprehensive treatment center in DuPage County, Illinois, to serve adult men and women suffering from the disease of alcoholism and substance abuse. Founded in 1985, Serenity House has grown from a four-bed cottage to a state-of-the-art addictions treatment facility and is now recognized on a local, state, and national level as an example of excellence, having helped thousands of individuals become productive members of society once again. He has also served on the Governor’s Task Force for Substance Abuse, the Special Supreme Court Committee on Lawyer’s Assistance Programs, and has testified before Congress regarding the Fair Housing Act of 1997. Mr. Tews is also a well-known public speaker, United Way/Crusade of Mercy Ambassador, and community leader who has taught college level classes on starting a social services agency. The author currently serves as President/CEO of Serenity House in Addison and lives in Crest Hill, IL with his wife Diane. A newly published,
